Jane & James reveal the moment they knew they’d found the perfect venue for their wedding…
I have been to a lot of weddings, have picked up numerous tips along the way and have seen what has and hasn’t worked well.
So when I found myself planning my own wedding I already had an idea of what I wanted and it was key that we found a venue where we could create a wedding that was personal and special to us.
Weddings can be incredibly expensive so trying to find a venue with character, style, that ticked all the boxes and was within a reasonable price range was difficult. We have done a lot of research and have spent months visiting, speaking to wedding venues and costing up all the options. We knew early on that we didn’t want to get married in a conference room in a hotel, or in a venue that had two or three weddings at once and have our wedding churned out with little personality.
We wanted a venue that we could stay in for at least a couple of days, to use exclusively for our friends and family and add our own touches to create our special event.
We looked at a number of venues that could be hired exclusively for a long weekend wedding, some were fields with boating lakes and some were in private woods and were a blank canvas to make our own. They seemed reasonably priced at first but then we started adding up all of the costs and all of the extras. Marquee hire, venue hire, toilet blocks, shower blocks, indoor lighting, outdoor lighting, tables, chairs, electricity cables, bar, sofas, catering tent, fridges, glasses, cutlery, crockery, stage, dancefloor (and don’t even get me started on the hidden VAT costs) and the list goes on. The costs spiralled out of control and we were starting to lose hope.
Then we came across Polhawn Fort. A stunning venue, fantastic views, in a lovely location, decorated beautifully and all the facilities are already there and in place saving a lot of time, trouble and money.
We can choose our own caterers allowing us to spend as much or as little as we want on food, there is no corkage and it is already decorated to a high standard meaning that we don’t have to spend a fortune on decorations. Having this flexibility means we can focus on the things that are important to us and make sure that the wedding is truly unique. It also gives us the option to save costs in numerous areas making Polhawn Fort great value. The staff are incredibly helpful and go out of their way to recommend ideas and suppliers, giving us different options at different prices enabling us to make informed decisions.
So that’s our journey so far. We have just booked Polhawn Fort, I have completed all the costings, balanced the budget and we can’t wait to get married in just over 6 months! Watch this space!!!
